OPERATION PACK LEADER – dedicated to providing service canines to a veteran or first responders suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) post 9/11. Our goal is to empower them to return to civilian and family life with dignity and independence with the aid of a service canine. This will lead to an enrichment in their family and everyday life.
My husband, Ret. Lt. Col Mark LaFlamme and our team have come to see that dogs, properly trained are a profound addition to the recovery from PTSD and TBI. We look to duplicate the successful programs in Florida with documented recovery from the debilitating horrors of war and trauma care. Our goal is to serve veterans and first responder families which are the backbone of America.
Our nationally recognized trainers Diane Coles, Mike Lorraine and David Thomsen, specialize in existential training that will impact the dogs and the owner for a lifetime. Our partnership with Dog World Sarasota will allow us to fulfil the training required to place dogs with deserving veterans and first responders. Dog World Sarasota is currently a designated training facility for Sarasota Search & Rescue.
Seeing a difference in articulation and vocabulary of the children she influences, Alma Eason is making a difference in Venice. Since our friendship began in 2005 she has been paving the way for The South West Educational Foundation, Inc to have a bigger impact than we first imagined.
Recently Alma has introduced me to many more in Venice who have caught the fire:
Paul Baran, myself, Patti Taylor

In the next 12 months we look to place 11 in the Sarasota Midtown Area. 11 in the Ringling College of Art & Design area. And 11 in our sister township of Eleuthera, Gregory Town, Bahamas. So far, the kids and their families have enjoyed riding their bikes from library to library. We look to increase our alliances with the Sarasota Family YMCA so that education for aquatic safety can be nested in our library’s — pointing to the upcoming ALL SARASOTA KIDS POOL PARTY swim curriculum roll out.
